Live painting is the same aerosol work with an audience attached. The piece is made in the room, in front of the people it is for, and finished by the time they leave.
Porsche. Shae was hired by Porsche to live paint a 911 during one of the marque’s global 75th anniversary events, held in Salt Lake City. The car was the canvas: aerosol straight onto the bodywork, roof down, painted outdoors with the event going on around it.
The Utah Jazz, twice. The first was outdoors during the 2018 playoffs, at the fan fest outside the arena. The Jazz’s own site recorded it: “Local street and graphic artist Shae Petersen spray painted a 5’x7’ canvas during the fan fest before Friday’s Jazz-Rockets game. His Take Note painting is now up for auction, with the proceeds benefitting 5 For The Fight in its battle against cancer.” A portrait of Donovan Mitchell was painted alongside it. The second was inside the Delta Center for a season ticket holder event, where portraits of Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert were donated to auction.
The placard beside the Gobert piece described the artist in the team’s own words: “Shae Petersen, aka SRIL, is one of the most recognized and in demand mural/aerosol artists in the Western U.S.”
Das Energi. A festival wall painted live in 2025, in Salt Lake City, for a crowd of 25,000.
Get Freaky. The three clowns below were painted on site at Get Freaky, the Halloween event held at the Utah State Fairpark in Salt Lake City, in front of a crowd of roughly 20,000.
Pluralsight. A branded backdrop painted live at the company’s Navigate event at the Grand America, in downtown Salt Lake City.
Five different rooms: a sports arena, two music festivals, a corporate conference and a car maker’s own event. Between Das Energi and Get Freaky that is 45,000 people in front of two of these walls. The work is freehand in every one of them, and what gets painted is agreed before the day.
