The challenge

Commissioned by the Paperbox Lofts in downtown Salt Lake City, the directive for this project was singular and open-ended: "Innovation." The canvas was the exterior of Utah's first automated electronic parking garage, a high-visibility structure located just one block from the Delta Center. To translate an abstract concept into a 50ft x 60ft visual landmark, I needed a composition that was both technically disruptive and symbolically powerful.

The resulting work features a monumental astronaut grasping an exploding lightbulb, a surrealist take on the moment of breakthrough. Executed entirely with freehand aerosol realism, this installation spans 3,000 square feet and serves as a visual anchor for the redevelopment of the SLC urban core.

By integrating graphic design principles with large-scale mural painting, the project transforms a utilitarian industrial structure into a premier example of contemporary public art.
